Burroughs DFA'ed
The Devil Rays have designated Sean Burroughs for assignment.
It would seem that he'll soon be available for the taking. I doubt the organization shares this sentiment, but I'd like to see the Padres re-acquire him, if only to send him to AAA and wait for him to hit.
He's still just 25, is an above-average defender at third base, and has hit .280 with a .340 OBA through 440 major league games. Considering he is still the age of many major league rookies, I wouldn't be surprised if he rebounded to have a solid career as a regular. It is fairly rare for a player to play in that many games before age 25 and not become a good player. And he's far better than Vinny Castilla.

I agree 100%. Bring 'im back!
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but there can be little doubt that he's a better, cheaper player than Castilla.
I meant it.
Burroughs would at least be a solid bet to post an OBA above .300, jessemundo. Same thing can't be said for Castilla.
Considering Vinny's hitting for ZERO power, as well, and that Burroughs is a better baner and at least as good a defender, I don't see how he could be worse than Castilla.
Plus, at age 25, there a good chance Burruoghs gets better, and becomes a long-term solution at the position. I think we all realize that there's absolutely no chance Vinny improves, and even if he did, he wouldn't be anything more than a stopgap, and a shitty one at that.
I'll be sure to tell Sandy, on Friday at the BP Pizza Feed, the we (the Friar Faithful :-) ) would like to give Sean one more shot!
The downside of such a move is that it'd put Justin Leone out of a job, as I'm sure that the Padres' brass would not replace Vinny with Burroughs straight away.
Unless we'd let Sean try to rebound down in Mobile?
This is good, out-of-the-box thinking!
Howard, I regret that I will be unable to attend Fri night.
Find out which players are nailing Boch's wife this year for me, would ya?
