The Randa Deal

Title Track

I like the acquisition of Randa a lot. I'm not terribly pleased that we had to trade Travis Chick to get him, but I like that we got him. He's a substantial upgrade at third base.

Padre Third Baseman by NRAA/64:
Randa15.21
Nady9.47
Blum2.79
Burroughs-7.67

Big upgrade.

Unloading Nevin

Ponson is a mediocre acquisition at best. Dumping Nevin is likely worth 2-3 extra wins. Padre First Basemen by NRAA/64:
Sweeney19.00
Nady10.11
Fick1.97
Nevin-5.19

The same results could be had by forcing Bochy to bench Nevin, but it's probably easier to get Nevin to allow a trade. Stupid Bochy...

I'll be shocked if Randa continues to hit.
Then again, I would have been nearly as shocked if Burroughs had STARTED to hit.

Randa is having a career year and probably won't stay at his current pace. That said, if he keeps Blum on the bench, God bless him.

Change is good. Lack of change leads to complacency...

When players are generally worried about their playing time, their spot on the team, their contract, etc., they play better... (If that wasn't the case, then why do players typically have good years before signing contracts and poor ones after?)
